An elusive, shrinking zone
There’s nothing quite like having people over to make you realize how squalid your home is, or what about it would have a guest making a mental note of what to tell their partner after they’ve left. Could you believe how those people live? We had another family over for the first time [UPDATE: as in, first time for them, not first time having people over, it’s not so dire!] last weekend and as we were sitting in the living room, I made some generic ‘excuse the mess//this is as neat as it gets’ comment (I had spent the bulk of that morning frantically cleaning and clearing off surfaces) and then looked up and noticed: the bookcases.
To be clear, I have no idea if they had any thoughts about our bookcases, and they only said nice things. It’s that I looked up and was like, oh right, that.
