I’m finding it extremely confusing that House ran from 2004-2012 and Doc Martin, 2004-2022. Both because this means the worse show ran a decade longer, and because the same show was apparently made twice in 2004, without anyone commenting on this (maybe people commented on it, I don’t know) or suing one another (maybe they did that as well).
The gist of the two shows is the same: a British man (one in convincing American drag) is a doctor who thinks everyone else is an idiot, which he would because he’s the world’s only smart person. He solves medical mysteries (ones that in Doc Martin’s case, even the half-asleep audience member, with no medical training, has already solved for him). He charms a successful but not too successful, ultra-sensible woman, played by a really beautiful Jewish actress. (Caroline Catz and Lisa Edelstein, different hair, similar otherwise, although I don’t believe Catz had a past life as a NYC it girl, nor that she ever played the love interest to George Costanza or Frasier Crane; now that I think of it these are two extremely different women.)
